I have a 94 Dodge Neon and it's been setting for over a year and it will not start and I was wondering how to empty the gas tank. I'm thinking if I empty the old gas and put in new gas it should be ok. IF you have any other suggestions it would be helpful.

Thanks

Before you empty the tank try this first. The problem might simply be air in the fuel lines. Turn on the car until you hear the fuel pump stop. Turn off the car and on the fuel rail will be a cap in the middle. Remove the cap and put a paper towel at the edge and use a screwdriver to push in the valve to release the fuel pressure. Be careful the fuel is under a lot of pressure. You may have to repeat this procedure a few time to get fuel out. You need to purge the air for the injectors. When cranking the engine over to get it primed do not keep cranking it give the started a break so it doesn't overheat and go bad trying to start the car. Another thing you can do to help it get purged and started is to pour a small dixie sized cup of fuel into the inlet of the throttle body and then go to start the car. Be very careful putting in the fuel and stay away from the intake when trying to start it in case of backfire. If that doesn't get it done it will take about ten minutes to do this procedure but if it doesn't work then to remove the tank just remove the two straps under the car and the filler neck from the body and it will come right out. That is great info. Thanks for helping out. This post was from a few years ago so I am not sure if they will benefit from it but I am sure others will.

Please let us know if we can help you with something in the future. Thanks again.
