91 Ford mustang 2.3L, 4 cylinder. One of the fan belts broke and part of it wrapped around the crankshaft underneath the pully. After removing the old belt and replacing it the car will not start and it appears that there is no spark. Could the destroyed belt affect the crankshaft position sensor even though it appears to be unharmed and would that cause it not to fire?

Yes, it could have damaged it. If it looks untouched, check for wiring that was damaged or disconnected.

It was the sensor. One of the ears was sheared off flat with the base of the sensor and I missed it the first time I looked.
