Hi, I have started having problems with my truck first the check engine light came on and it was flashing and at the same time the truck started shaking and sputtering. I put a code reader on it and ended up having to change one of the cylinders, but now it wont turn over at all. Any one know what might also be wrong with it or what I might check next?

Hello,

Okay, so it sounds to me like your engine had a catalyst damaging event, i.E. The engine blew up, and you had to rebuild it, replacing one cylinder. Now your engine refuses to rotate? Please clarify a little for me please. We can help, but we only if we can understand what is going on. You can even take a video and upload here if that would be easier for you. Please get back to us.

Thank you,
Alex

No, I didn't blow the engine (at least not that I know of). The truck was running perfectly fine until the other day all of a sudden the truck had lost power and started shaking (at first I thought it was a flat) and it was kind of sputtering (like as if it was running out of gas), but then I noticed that the check engine light was flashing. So I had someone put a code reader on it and code p0304 came up. When I looked up the code it said cylinder four was bad so I changed it out with a new one. But my truck wont turn over at all. Now it is like as if it is not getting gas and yes I hear the fuel pump come on. So what do you think that might be the cause of the problem or what should I try checking next? And thank you.

Oh and one more thing. A couple weeks ago I drove through a puddle but it was extremely bigger then it looked. A little four door car drove through it so I figured I would be safe to drive through it too. But it was pretty deep the whole bottom of the truck was submerged in water I almost didn't make it out of the puddle, but when I did the truck shut off and wouldn't start back up for about twenty minutes and it has been driving fine up until now. Could that have caused any damage that would have not affected it until now?

Hello again,

I don't think so. What probably happened was your Crankshaft Position Sensor got wet in the connector. The Power-train Control Module (PCM) AKA, "computer" uses this sensor's signal to determine where the engine is in it's cycle and calculates spark and fuel injector pulse timing from it. Without this information the engine will not run. As soon as it dried out your vehicle started again.

Thanks,
Alex

Oh and one other thing. The guy who replaced the cylinder for me, well I don't think he put it back together correctly because it wont turn over at all now when it would before he changed it. Plus there is gas leaking from around the replaced cylinder so now would that also cause it to not to turn over (cause my theory is that since there is a leak would keep it from having the right amount of fuel pressure which would cause it not to turn over? I hope that I am explaining all this correctly and that you are able to understand me.

Hello again,

The fact that you have fuel leaking from around the cylinder would probably be a leaking fuel injector. When the injector goes into the rail if the o ring on top or bottom of the injector dosen't fit squarely in the hole then it will leak. The engine not turning over at all does mean that there is something wrong internally in the engine. It could be multiple things, a main bearing cap that is torqued down to tight, same with a connecting rod, a bent connecting rod. Oil pump pickup tube bent, bent crankshaft. The point that I am getting at is the engine probably will have to come back apart to address the issue. We have step by step instructions for rebuilding your engine if that would help. Please let us know if we can help you in any way.

Thanks,
Alex

Okay, so after looking at the truck warlier we know that the fuel pump is pumping fuel to the engine but for some reason. It is not turning over we think that maybe because there is not enough pressure. So now my question is, will that leak from the o-ring from the fuel injector will that cause it to have low fuel pressure as well?

Hello again,

For a healthy engine there are only three things it needs to start. Fuel, spark, and compression. But you said earlier that the engine won't turn at all. If that is the case, that will have to addressed before we can move forward.

Thanks,
Alex

Since I am not a mechanic I don't know the correct terminology for things and so I do appreciate your patients with me with that said lets start from the beginning. My truck was running perfectly fine with no problems until the other day all of a sudden on my way home it started shaking and kind of sputtering plus the check engine light was flashing. So I put a code reader on it and looked up the code it read p0304. Which indicates cylinder four was bad so someone helped me change it with a new one after the new fuel injector was put in I tried to start up the truck but it wouldn't turn over it wanted to start but it seems like as if its not getting any gas and yes I can hear the fuel pump kick on. So I know its not a bad fuel pump we tried doing a compression test on it and it has compression so what could it possibly be?

Hello again,

It is no problem at all, and I have all day so it dosen't matter if you are a mechanic or not. But I do need to understand what is going so I can help you. We will get this figured out. Okay, that's good. Direct Trouble Code(DTC) P0304 is indeed a misfire in cylinder #4. Misfires are categorized into two types, type A misfire, and Type B misfire. It's been a while since I was going threw factory training with Honda so I can't recall what the criteria is exactly for a misfire being a Type A misfire, but I do remember that if your Malfunction Indicator Lamp(MIL)a.k.a."check engine" light illuminates and flashes, it is a Type A misfire. This type of misfire is serious and is called a catalyst damaging event.
I personally own a supercharged mustang gt and three years ago I had a problem with my Mass Airflow sensor(MAF), which tells the PCM the amount of air entering the engine, a very critical sensor for engine longevity. My engine blew up, that is to say I blew a hole threw the top of my #4 piston, bent and fractured the connecting rod, and lost all compression in that cylinder. My MIL came on and was flashing. This is an example of a catalyst damaging event.
If you could please do me a favor and go to the links down below.

I know you guys have a done a compression test, but if you could please humor me and re check it for me that would be great. Please get back to me with what you guys find out.

Thanks,
Alex
