I was driving while not paying attention to my gas gauge and I ran out of gas. My car would not start after that, and I replaced the fuel pump. I have tested all my fuses and relays. Any idea what my problem could be? Please get back to me ASAP. Thank you!

Hi,

Do you hear the fuel pump prime when you first turn the key on? There are two different fuses required for the pump to run. Did you check both? (See pic below)

Also, I want you to try something. See if the engine starts if you use starting fluid. If it does and then stalls, we know it is a fuel-related issue. If there is no change, check to see if there is spark at the plugs.

Here is a link that explains how to check:

Let me know.

Fuel pump primes, checked fuses, and checked for spark, all are good.

Hi,

Have you checked the fuel pump pressure? The pump may run but not be producing.

If you have spark at the plugs, it isn't getting fuel. That is either the pump isn't working properly even though it is new, there is no injector pulse, or something is plugging the fuel supply. Will it start for a second or two with starting fluid? If it does, then we need to move on to the fuel pressure.

Here is a link that explains how it's done:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-fuel-system-pressure-and-regulator

If the pressure is good, I need you to check for power at the fuel injectors. Each injector will have two wires going to it. One of the wires on each injector will be a dark green wire with a light green tracer. With the key in the run position, check that wire on any of the injectors for power. (See pic below)

If you have power, let me know. At that point, we will need to see if the PCM is providing a ground path for the fuel injectors.

Let me know what you find.

Joe
