I have a 2000 dodge intrepid. The transmission went out then the engine, both were replaced by mechanics. Then the battery went, I put a new one in. Then about a month later on new years eve I came outside and it wouldn't start. I got a jump and we went home. When we pulled in I noticed that the "trunk open" light was glowing, not bright enough to say that it was open, but glowing. I didnt think about it and shut the car off checked the trunk. It was closed. And went inside. The next morning I came out and it wouldn't start. Wouldn't even roll over. I tried to jump it from my friends Sebring but it wouldn't take a jump. With a new battery and the sneaking suspision that I might have a bad alternator, should I try jumping from a truck to get more amps? And what about the glowing trunk light?

Wecome to the forum, check to see if the light in the trunk stays on, where applicable, best to check in the dark. Does the trunk warning light, go off, when the key is turned off?

If the battery is down, take it off and get charged. If you use a digital voltmeter across the battery posts, everything turned off, 12.6 volts, generic spec for a fully charged battery. Start the vehicle, take second reading across the battery posts, the second reading should be higher than the first, if the charging system is working.

Thank you, yes the trunk warning light in the dash is the light that continues to glow when the key is off. I don't have any problems when I have a fully charged battery, it roles over and starts right up. So I don't think its an ignition problem.

There is a switch in the trunk for that lite. The switch is on the ground circuit, either a problem with the switch or the wiring circuit is shorted to ground, somewhere. Voltage to the warning light is hot all the time, on and off is controlled on the ground circuit. If you unplug the switch, does the lite go out?
