Hi,

If you are getting a clicking sound, that usually indicates the battery is too weak to start the engine. Also, what makes you say it is overheating? If the engine isn't running, it doesn't produce heat. Therefore, it can't be overheating.

If, however, you mean the temp gauge shows it is overheating, that too can be the result of a weak battery.

So, let's start by load testing the battery. You can do this at home.

If possible, recharge the battery just to confirm it is fully charged.

One last thing. Make sure the battery terminals are clean, tight, and free of corrosion.

Let me know what you find. Also, if you can record the sound and upload it for me to hear, it may be helpful.

Take care,

Joe

Hi,

Do me a favor. I need you to confirm the engine isn't locked up. At the bottom of the engine is a crankshaft pulley. There is a bolt in the center of it. Put a socket and breaker bar on it and see if you can turn the engine.

The best pic I could find was one with a pulley puller in it. I highlighted where the bolt is located.

If you are able to turn the engine by hand, we need to remove the starter and have it bench tested at a parts store. I have a feeling the Bendix is working and engaging with the flywheel, but the starter isn't turning at all.

If you need to remove it, here is a link to get you started. It explains in general how one is replaced.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-replace-a-starter-motor

If you at the attachments below, they include the directions and pictures for removal and replacement specific to your vehicle.

Honestly, I don't feel the engine is locked. It has low mileage. But, I'm suggesting testing because it is easier than removing the starter. I'm just trying to save you some time.

Let me know what you find or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe
