After my car listed above (300c) ran hot and shut off discover a leak by water pump. After replacing water pump, thermostat, belt and even radiator cap, car started really rough for a few seconds and shut back off. Turns over but will not crank. Also red lighting bolt signal came on. I reset everything by taking positive cable off battery for 2 hours and replace with brand new battery. What could the problem be?

HI Nickey,

Just so I understand. It ran really hot and shut itself off?

Any time you have a no start after an overheat the first thing you need to check is the compression. Especially, if it started and ran rough and then shut off again.

If this got hot enough, then most likely the head(s) are warped causing a loss of compression and preventing it from starting and when it does it runs poorly.

Here are a couple of guides that will help with performing these types of tests.

Once you get the compression readings let me know what they are. We can go further if needed but that will tell us which path we need to go down. Thanks

Yes it ran really hot and shut itself off. Not a lot of smoke but some from the radiator and the oil isn't milky.I will work on getting the compression readings asap. Thank you and I hope to hear from you soon

Okay. I suspect an issue with the head. The coolant/oil being milky is just a sign that the head is warped but doesn’t happen every time. Also it may not have run long enough to mix the coolant and oil yet.

Just let me know what the compression readings are and we can go from there.

Oh and if possible when you have the plugs out take a picture of the tips and see if there is any coolant in the cylinders.

Just to be sure this is the same issue from last May? After it overheated it will not turn over or anything?

If it has been sitting since then we need to check the battery using this guide.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/car-battery-load-test

However, if the battery is fine and it will not turn over after this happened then we need to try and turn the motor by hand with a socket on the crank pulley and make sure it is not locked up.

However, if this is a different issue then we need to get a new post started as we need to keep each one to one topic.

Let us know and we can go from there. Thanks
