When I first start my car for the day it runs fine for about 2 miles. Then the rpm rev up and it slips out of gear. When I am driving 55 mph the rpm's are at 3 already. Once it slips the gear it stays out of it. On the freeway it will never get into 4th or 5th gear. When driving around town the lower gears shift really jerky. It is no smooth transition of gears.
However when my low on gas light comes on, it runs fine. It shifts and everything. It's smooth but if there is gas it jerks you around.

Good morning,

How long since you change the fluid in the transmission? If the fluid is breaking down when it gets hot or if it is low, it will neutral out and not work.

I would start by changing the fluid.

Is the check engine light on? If it is, can you give me the codes? You can have a parts store read them for free.
