My engine was misfiring. So I ran an OBD test and it said cylinder five was misfiring. I changed all the spark plugs and now my check engine light is on with seven new codes. Four of which are Wheel Speed Senor Malfunctions. One for each wheel. The other three new codes are emissions. It seems hard to believe that all of my wheel speed sensors would malfunction at the same time unless I hit something and shorted the system. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to 2CarPros.

Since you replaced the plugs and now have these new codes, I have a feeling something was accidentally disconnected or damaged. If a sensor was bumped under the hood or a vacuum line disconnected, it could be causing the emissions codes.

As far as the sensors, I totally agree. They don't all go bad at the same time. With that in mind, can you send me the codes you have. That way I can look specifically at what the cause could be. Also, if you questions the sensors, here is a link that shows how to test wheel speed sensors. Also, I added a couple links discussing how to check wiring as well as using a multi meter/volt meter.

If you could provide the codes, it may help me.

Take care,
JOe

Thanks for the response,

I forget the last one but it was the fourth wheel

P0442
P0446

I disconnected the air intake hose for easier access to the passenger side spark plugs. I didn’t disconnect any other hoses, but moved them out of the way to get my socket through.
I did loosen some wires that were in the way of cylinder number 1. I tightened them back down when I was done. I’m attaching a picture of those wires.

Welcome back:

The EVAP codes I feel sure are related to either a disconnected vacuum hose, plugged hose, or an electrical component is disconnected. Also, the wire you show in the picture looks like a ground. Make sure it is clean and tight.

Take a look at the first pic. It indicates possible causes. You will see that vacuum or a disconnect wire can be the cause. Pictures 2 - 5 discuss diagnosis for vacuum/electrical.

Picture 6 and 7 show component locations under the hood. Notice the components I am suggesting to check are right in the area you were working. Picture 6 shows locations of different components. Pic 7 is a legend of the parts listed. You need to check VSV components 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9. Any of these can cause the EVAP trouble codes.

Next is the ABS. There is one common ground for all wheels which is provided through the abs actuator with ECU. Now, the ground ls located on the right front fender. There will be two white wires with a black tracer. See schematic in piture 8. Check to make sure that wasn't damaged while working on the vehicle. Also, check the ABS 60 amp fuse in the under hood fuse box. Pictures 9 and 10 are included for you to see the location of the ABS fuse and the ABS actuator with ECU location.

Since these new codes showed up all at once, the aforementioned things are the first things I suspect. Start with these and let me know the results.

If you need help or have other questions, let me know.

Take care,
Joe

I have no idea why so many of the picture duplicated. If I try to delete them, it adds more. So, pretend picture 9 is the first one listed.

Thanks for all the help. I’ll look over these pictures. Also, my check engine light isn’t on anymore. I’m not sure why that happened. Would those codes still be there if the check engine light isn’t lit?

Hi, Cody.

If the light went off, the codes shouldn't be there anymore. However, one never knows. Let me know if I can help or if you have other questions.

Take care,
Joe
