I had some supposed mechanics to take apart my daddy's car listed above and now I am trying to pick up the pieces. I need a thorough step by step vehicle specific guide please, so I know if I'm missing any parts here's what I have so far. Please and thank you.

Hi,

Can you tell me if this is a 400 cubic-inch engine or the 403 cubic-inch engine?

Also, I will be happy to provide any information I have. However, because of the model year, it may or may not be limited.

In the interim, here is a link that explains in general how it's done. Although it is a different model vehicle and engine, the procedure is similar to what you have had done.

Let me know.

Take care,

Joe

400 cu in. I'll send VIN report for exact specs. I have a Chilton manual online, but it is not very specific I've gotten to the alternator bracket and I'm not sure exactly where how it's supposed to be mounted and exploded diagram view would be awesome. Any help you have to offer would be awesome. I appreciate your prompt response.

Hi,

I went through two manuals and neither one has a pic.

From memory, the alternator itself should sit in front of the power steering reservoir. If I recall, there are two brackets. The adjustment bracket is at the bottom and mounts either near or to the power steering pump bracket. The upper bracket should be mounted to the engine block/intake.

I attached two pics below. Let me know if that appears to be what you have and are dealing with or if it is different. If it is different, take a few pics of the parts you have and a front view of the engine.

Take care,

Joe
