So I was driving into work, and I started to smell my brakes (from the passenger rear end) it drove fine then my speedometer started bouncing from 30-80 crazy light. Then my ABS light came on, and my e-brake light came on. Also, my truck downshifted to first gear and would not shift and now I cannot get it to start. It acts like it but it just turns but will not start, checked all my fuses. None were popped or bad. I am kind of clueless on it.

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.com.

It sounds like you have a few different problems. If you smelled brakes getting hot, something hung up and stuck on. The ABS light is related to a sensor which was most likely damaged as a result. Here are two links related to the ABS the first one explains how to test them and the second how they are replaced:

Now, the easiest way to get information is to scan the vehicle's OBD2 computer. It will indicate trouble codes which translate into where problems exist. Here is a video showing how it works:

Now the reason I feel it is important to scan the computer is because the no start, the not shifting from first gear can get involved and we need a starting point. For example, if the code indicates a output speed sensor has failed, that could explain why it will not shift and the speedometer went crazy. Additionally, if a code indicates loss of signal from the crankshaft position sensor, that would indicate why it will not start.

If possible, scan the computer and let me know what you find. Also, check the rear brake that had the odor and make sure the wiring to the ABS sensor is not melted or damaged in some way.

Let me know what you find.

Joe
PS: I realize it will not run, but check with a local parts store to see if they will lend you a scanner so you can check the system. Often times, they will charge you for the tool and then return the money whey you return the tool.
