Okay, so I was driving my truck when it just completely shut off. My odometer said no bus, but I moved one the plugs to the computer and it would start again. But this time it did it and now I got crank but no start. Yes, there is fuel, yes, I have checked coil. Also ran obd2 scanner codes given were TPS (throttle position sensor), air intake sensor, engine coolant sensor, and manufacture control. This has been going on for about a year the shutting off completely issue but has always fixed by moving this plug. Also, should know it gets worse when hotter outside and I live in AZ. Any help for this is much appreciated, I'm about to blow the truck step for me needless to say and I Love my dodges! Thank you in advance. Will the TPS cause no start?

If you confirmed it is getting fuel, does it have spark to the plugs? If you haven't checked, here is a link that you may find helpful:

Next, the TPS could prevent it from starting. Let me know the actual codes you are getting.

Take care,

joe

So yes, it's getting fuel at least to the rail and no spark at the plugs, but coil is good is what we found out. And the code reader I have doesn't give me the actual code with numbers, it just says what I put previously.

If you have no spark, then my first suspect is the crankshaft position sensor. If your scan tool has live data, see if there is an RPM signal when cranking the engine.

If it doesn't but the truck has a tachometer, see if there is any movement in the tachometer when cranking.

I attached a pic below of the crankshaft position sensor location. If there is no signal, that would be my first suspect.

Let me know.

Joe

Okay, sorry first I apologize for being mistaken; I've since been informed the coil is good, but it is no spark to plugs. Why wouldn't the scan tool pick up on crankshaft sensor on the codes? Just curious, again I apologize but this helps me learn to know next time is all. Thanks, and we are going to my parts truck tonight for said sensors. We shall let you know how it plays tomorrow once we install them. Again, thank you very much.

Hi,

A crank sensor may or may not set a code. "Because a crankshaft position sensor is related to engine speed when they fail it may not trigger a CEL light. This is because there are some things that can stop the crankshaft position sensor's signal that will have nothing to do with the sensor going bad such as running out of gas or stalling the engine when letting the clutch pedal out too quickly."

Take a look through this link that explains symptoms:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/symptoms-of-a-bad-crankshaft-sensor

Let me know if that takes care of the issue.

Take care,

joe

Well sorry for the delay in responding we have been struggling getting the crankshaft sensor out, it's just my hubby and I, which I'm not scared the grimey. Reminder, we live in a desertous part of Arizona where it's been pushing 120° daily for weeks now. So my daylight hours are very little that aren't scorching you hot. Hope to finally have this out and replaced by tomorrow though. Thank you again and will update if it fixes my issue.

Hi,

Thanks for the update, and no problem whatsoever. I can't imagine what 120 degrees would feel like. I'm in PA, so it's rare to get above 95, and that is hot enough. LOL The humidity makes it a bit difficult, but nothing like 120.

Take care and stay cool.

Joe

Hi,

If you lost fuel, my first thought is there is an issue with the automatic shutdown relay (ASD). However, that doesn't explain no spark.

On the other hand, if there is no ignition, the vehicle is designed to shut off the fuel to prevent damage or flooding.

Do me a favor. I attached a pic of the under-hood fuse box and highlighted the ASD relay. Switch it with a different one having the same part number. If there isn't one, here is a link that explains how to test it:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-an-electrical-relay-and-wiring-control-circuit

Let me know what you find.

Take care,

joe

Okay Joe, I've already done that, nothing changed. Now I've also been told my cam sensor is probably bad. My current battle seems to be maybe something else too. Okay, so, I took my battery to get it tested and charged up again. Tested good, brought it home put in truck tried cranking it a few times maybe 3 then let sit couple days had other things to get to so that's why else I'm slowed up in timing here. But I'm trying, so what would have caused my battery to drain that quickly? I have never had any problems with this until now as well. But I am stuck like chuck with no clue where to go but all your help is definitely appreciated. This is our only transportation so it's hurting us badly. Thanks again

Hi,

When you checked the ASD relay, did you confirm the circuit is working? In other words, there should be two power supply pins and a ground path provided by the PCM. Did you confirm they were all present?

Let me know.
