Replace the transmission and now the car won't start.

Hi,

When you say it won't start, do you mean the starter won't engage or the starter works but the engine fails to start?

Let me know, and in the interim, take a look through these links for the most common causes of a crank no start condition or a starter not working repair:

Let me know.

Take care,

Joe

Like it sounds like the starters being kicked out not engaging, it turns on but will not crank over. Didn't mess with anything besides doing transmission replacement a scent so kind of stumped as to why car won't start.

Hi,

Is it possible for you to record what it sounds like when trying to start and upload it for me to hear? That could be very helpful.

I ask because of what you indicated. If the starter turns but doesn't engage with the flywheel, the starter Bendix may be bad, or something is up with the positioning of the flywheel.

Let me know if the same flywheel/flex plate was used.

Let me know.

Right now, it's making just a single hard click sound when you try and turn it over aside from that yes, the same flex plate and torque converter was put back in with the replaced transmission, is that bad? Do I need to buy a new flex plate? Thanks in advance.

Hi,

No, the original parts should be fine as long as they weren't damaged, but it sounds like something is causing it to jamb. Do me a favor. See if you can turn the engine by hand. If the starter can't turn the engine because something is hitting, you should be able to tell. Try turning it in both directions a little to see if you can and what happens.

At this point, I have a feeling something wasn't put together correctly or not tightened and there is a bolt or something hitting the torque converter or flex plate and preventing it from turning.

Let me know.
