Hi there,

With the vibration and the poor economy I am wondering if the engine is only running on 3 cylinders. Is it idling smoothly or rough and rocking about? Is it worse when put into gear? Is your car EFI or Carby? If carby it will have a large round black air filter housing on top of the engine. If carby model, these had a nasty habit of sucking in the inlet manifold gasket causing a bad miss fire, Get your mechanic to check for engine vacuum leaks first.

Hi there,

You really need to have some electronic testing equipment and a understanding of whats going on in the motor, you can't just start pulling leads to see if A cylinder is firing, you are looking at 40-60,000 Volts now that can hurt. I would start by checking for any vacuum leaks around the engine inlet manifold, it might be a simple thing like that, otherwise you best get a mechanic to pass an eye over it and report back their findings.
