My car recently failed its warrant of fitness due to "too much smoke coming from its exhaust." I have 20 days to take it back in with the problem solved. How am I best to stop the smoke?

Was told taking it for a 40km (ish) drive before the WOF would make the smoke less noticeable? Also ensuring oil is topped up etc?

Cheers

It depends on what type of smoke being emitted?

It looks pretty standard, sort of steamy white. Much worse on a cold day as well. I'm not really sure what different types of smoke would look like but thats how i'd best describe it

If its not overheating and the gauge don't reflect it-change the engine oil and filter could be just accumulation of water being caused by not properly warming up the engine-condensatiion

If white smoke then possible head gasket, but this is RARE on the 4AFE engine.

I would follow RAZ's advice first.
