1989 Toyota Corolla starting

I have problems starting my corolla first thing in the morning. I have to pump the gas pedal continually for at times 1 to 2 minutes before it will start. Once it starts I have no problem with starting it the rest of the day. It is a carburated engine, not fuel injected. The car quit running on me about 2 weeks ago and the mechanic replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, spark plugs and wiring, and distributor. It seemed to take care of the starting problem for a few days but it has starting being difficult to start in the mornings (or the first start of the day) again. I checked the choke on it and have sprayed a carburator cleaner in an effort to get the choke to work freely. This morning I was having a problem getting it started so I removed the air filter and checked the choke and it appreared to be closed. Please help me determine what the problem is with the car. Hi larry,

Most probably it has something to do with the accelerating pump.

Choke should be closed when engine is cold but if it is out of adjustment and not providing enough air flow, it would cause difficult starting. Depress accelerator 1/2 way and try starting.

Is the fuel window showing any fuel before starting?

I suspect fuel is leaking out and the float chamber is dry in the morning thus the difficult starting.

I have this same type of problem. After my 1989 Toyota sit for a week it will not start without a lot of pumping the accelerator. New fuel pump, carb, fuel lines, plugs, wires, distributor cap,
Looks like fuel in the fuel window.
A shot of starting fluid in the carb and it starts right up. What could be the issue.
