Bad oil change?

Recently I had my oil changed on my 1999 Subaru Forester, (55,000 miles) - at a 'reputable' dealer.
Two days later, there was a HUGE oil pool in my driveway.
Could they have possibly put on the wrong oil filter? My bill says the filter is item # PS 02870059 and the typed description of this to the right on the bill says": SL14460BP, PWFLO OIL FILTER.

I have never had a problem with my Subaru before this!
Can anyone help?
Thank you so much in advance.[/B]

Its possible the old o-ring stayed on the engine then they rolled the new filter on over it. When that happens, as soon as you build up high oil press it will push the old o-ring out causing a leak. Or the drain plug is loose or needs a new gasket

My car had its last two oil changes at a major auto repair center. On the last oil change, they did not remove the old o-ring before putting on the new one. The engine is now seized. Do I have to take them to court, or is it expected that this company should pay for a new motor? Should I get a mechanic's opinion before towing my car to that company?

Thank you.

John
