1984 GL turbo transmission problem

I have a 1984 Subaru GL turbo wagon with 122K miles, 1.8L, 4 speed automatic. My problem is with the transmission. The car runs fine in 1st or 2nd gear, but when in higher gears, the transmission slips and acts like it is in neutral. Also when put in park, the car drifts and does not act like it is in park - must use brake to keep it held in place. Do I need a new transmission or is something else wrong?

Wow, took almost 3 years for someone to answer this? Yes, a rebuild is in order, this happened with my 84 gl turbo. I couldn't afford a rebuild so I got one at a junk yard for 200$. Works fine.
