This started suddenly, out of the blue: starts intermittently, but most of the time when turn the key to start the car the panel goes out, no lights. Can be jump started, car will run and drive fine once started, except for intermittent power drops for a split second with climate control and radio restarting and brief flash of battery light. Interior lights flicker for a while when car off and door is open then either go out or come on, sometimes faded. Fuel cut-off switch in trunk clicks repeatedly when car is off for a while then stops. Battery and its connections are good. New generator. Checked all visible wiring no sign of damage.

Hi, Kent.

The idea that things go dark is usually the result of a weak connection. You indicated the battery terminals are clean and tight. Have you checked for corrosion? Also, have you checked the ground from the battery to the engine/body?

When the vehicle won't start, is the battery actually weak?

Take a look through this link. Chances are you already checked the things listed, but I need to start here.

Let me know as much as you can. Also, confirm if the battery is weak when it happens and if the alternator is charging.

Take care,

Joe

Thanks Joe. The battery connections looked good, but I rebuilt each one anyway and that solved the problem!

Excellent. Thanks for letting me know, and I'm glad it is fixed. Something just wasn't making a good connection.

Regardless, please feel free to come back anytime in the future if you have questions or need help. You're always welcome here.

Take good care of yourself,

Joe
