So grinding no clicking just the starter motor spinning freely. Thought solenoid, so went to junkyard got another starter and solenoid, had it tested, replaced it, same problem. My battery had went completely dead, do charging it now. Other than the solenoid, and or weak battery, what else could cause the starter to not engage?

Welcome to 2CarPros.

If the starter is working properly but only spinning and not engaging with the flywheel, remove the starter and confirm the flywheel is positioned correctly, there are no teeth broken from it, and it is tight. I have to be honest, usually there is at least a grinding sound. Are you certain that the engine isn't turning really fast due to a broken timing belt? Make sure when you engage the starter that the drive belts (alt, AC.) Aren't turning.

Do me a favor. Record the sound made by the starter and upload it so I can hear what is happening. I should be able to tell you what is happening.

Let me know.

Joe

Yep the belts are turning! But no grinding sounds. I'm afraid she's done for. Seems like a combustion issue.
