Transmission problem
Saturn SL1 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 89000 miles

When downshifting or sometimes just shifting into first gear the stick will not go and to get it to go into gear you have to double clutch. For now I am fine with this inconvenience if there is a inexpensive way to fix it but will this problem end up breaking my bank in the future

Hi baritz113,

Thank you for the donation.

Quite a number of vehicles do have this problem and at times it is aggravated by the cluth disc moving away from the flywheel late.

If it is from within the trans, a gear oil change often reduces or eliminates the problem. If it is due to the scynchronizer rings, then the repair is going to be more expensive as it requires rebuilding the trans assy.

If it is due to the clutch, the input ( clutch) shaft, it lacks lubrication and the clutch disc is moving away from the flywheel slower than expected. A clutch system service or replacement is required to resolve the problem.
