I will be driving, and the RPMs jump to between 3 and 3500 but won’t shift down until I brake. I turn off the car and restart and it is normal until the next time it happens. It has happened both driving locally and on the highway. Twice the car shut off.

Hi,

Does the vehicle always restart easily, or do you have to wait? Also, did it stall at highway speeds?

If it is stalling at highway speeds, my first suspect is the fuel pump. Here is a link that shows in general how to check it:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-fuel-system-pressure-and-regulator

You will need a fuel pressure gauge, but most parts stores will lend one to you.

Let me know what you find. Also, let me know if the check engine light stays on while the engine is running.

Take care,

Joe

It can take several tries to get it to turnover. Yes, it happened on the highway. No check engine light.

Hi,

Although I suspect it is a fuel-related issue, I need you to check something for me. When this happens and it won't restart right away, pay attention to the tachometer when cranking. Is it moving a little to indicate the engine is turning?

Also, please take a look through this link and let me know if it seems to mirror what you experience. By checking the tachometer for movement, it should identify if this is the issue or not.

Let me know.
