Hi. My SUV just had a battery light flashing on console. It took me twenty minutes to pull over and find an exit off the highway.

I parked and it stalled. But just before all lights started flashing with bells and whistles going off. Even the radio and environmental controls went haywire.

I tried to start and the light show is all can get. I near noises and clicks and even a trance static whistle. Go figure. But not turning over let alone starting.

Question. Is it s good idea for me to disconnect battery and reboot computer? I think its possessed. If So. I won't need to reprogram anything? I hope. I am in the middle of no where and it is late.

P.S. I checked all fuses already. Inside and out. By sight. No tester with me. And I just found that the oil cap is missing. Just took it in for an oil change a couple hours earlier. Could that be it? Drove okay for two hours before incident with no cap. Sensors etc?

Good morning,

It sounds like you have a dead battery from a charging system issue. The battery light is an indication of a charging system fault.

You need to start with charging the battery.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/car-battery-load-test

Then you need to check the charging system for proper voltage.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-a-car-alternator

All these symptoms are related to low voltage.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-a-car-electrical-system-works

No, removing the battery cable does nothing.

As far as the oil cap, no, it will not cause this issue.

Okay, great. Makes sense. Battery is charged. Now the security is tripped I think. No crank no start with a intermittent click noise under dash/wheel. I am assuming it's kill switch triggered. Maybe? Anyone know how the 06 Buick Rendezvous alarm reboot system protocols work?

Also. Yes now after a charged battery installed, I get no more crazy light show on dash, the great possession is irradiated lol, but now it's just the alarm trigger sound under dash clicking and the stereo security light blinking.

But, if I turn key to on the start of possession there is nothing. Even the clicking security under the dash stops. Silence. Nothing.

If I turn it back off to take it out of ignition. It starts the security clicking and flashing again.

Hope that is all clear?

I attached the thirty minutes relearn for the key to learn the password.

Roy

PROGRAMMING THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM COMPONENTS

IMPORTANT: When replacing a theft deterrent control module with an GM Service Parts Operation (SPO) Replacement Part, set up the control module prior to the 10-minute relearn procedure or the 30-minute relearn procedure.

Tools Required
Scan tool

Set Up A New Theft Deterrent Control Module
Use this procedure only if replacing the theft deterrent control module with an GM SPO Replacement Part.

1. Connect a scan tool to the vehicle.
2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
3. With a scan tool, select Setup New VTD Module in the Vehicle Theft Deterrent, Special Functions data list.
4. Follow the scan tool on-screen instructions.

IMPORTANT:
- When replacing a theft deterrent control module with an GM SPO Replacement Part, the module will learn the keys immediately. The existing powertrain control module (PCM) must learn the new fuel continue password when you replace the theft deterrent control module.
- When replacing a PCM with a GM SPO Replacement Part, the new PCM will learn the incoming fuel continue password immediately after programming and upon receipt of a password message. Once a password message is received and a password is learned, perform the learn procedure to change this password again. A PCM which had been installed in another vehicle will have learned the fuel continue password of the other vehicle's theft deterrent control module. Perform either the 10-minute relearn procedure or the 30-minute relearn procedure after programming to learn the fuel continue password of the current vehicle's theft deterrent control modules.
- When performing either relearn procedure, all previously learned keys will be erased from the theft deterrent control module's memory.
- Additional keys may be learned immediately after the first relearn procedure by inserting the additional key and turning the ignition to RUN within 10 seconds of removing the previously learned key.
- Use only a master key when performing the first relearn procedure. If you use a valet key first, the theft deterrent control module will not allow additional keys to be learned.

Tools Required
- Scan tool
- Techline Terminal with current Service Programing System (SPS) software

10-minute Relearn Procedure
Use this procedure after replacing the following components:
- The passkey III (PK3) keys
- The theft deterrent control module
- The PCM, see important above

1. Connect a scan tool to the vehicle.

IMPORTANT: If replacing a theft deterrent control module with a GM SPO Replacement Part, perform the procedure to setup a new theft deterrent control module prior to the 10-minute relearn procedure.

2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
3. Insure that all power consuming devices are turned OFF on the vehicle.
4. With a scan tool, select Request Info. Under Service Programming System and follow the scan tool on-screen instructions.
5. Disconnect the scan tool from the vehicle and connect the scan tool to a Techline Terminal with the current Service Programming System (SPS) software.
6. On the Techline Terminal, select Service Programming System and follow the Techline Terminal on-screen instructions.
7. Disconnect the scan tool from the Techline Terminal and re-connect the scan tool to the vehicle.
8. With a master passkey III key, turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
9. With a scan tool, select Program ECU under Service Programming System.
10. At this point the scan tool must remain connected for the duration of the 10-minute relearn procedure.
11. Observe the scan tool, after approximately 10 minutes the scan tool will display "Programming Successful, Turn OFF Ignition". The vehicle is now ready to relearn the key information and/or the passwords on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to ON.

IMPORTANT: On some vehicles the SECURITY telltale maybe illuminated on steady for the duration of the 10-minute relearn procedure.

12. Turn OFF the ignition and wait 5 seconds.
13. With a master Passkey III key, start the vehicle. The theft deterrent control module has now learned the key transponder information and the PCM has now learned the fuel continue password.
14. Turn OFF the ignition and wait 15 seconds minimum.

IMPORTANT: Perform this step ONLY on vehicles with EXPORT configured theft deterrent control modules.

15. With a second master passkey III key, start the vehicle. The theft deterrent control module has now learned the second master Passkey III key transponder information

IMPORTANT: Perform this step ONLY on vehicles with EXPORT configured theft deterrent control modules.

16. With a scan tool, clear any DTCs.

30-Minute Relearn Procedure
Use this procedure after replacing the following components:
- The passkey III (PK3) keys
- The theft deterrent control module
- The PCM, see important above

1. With a master passkey III key (Black), turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

IMPORTANT: This procedure is not available on vehicles equipped with option code (Z49 or BAE).

If replacing a theft deterrent control module with an GM SPO Replacement Part, perform the procedure to setup a new theft deterrent control module prior to the 30-minute relearn procedure.

2. Observe the Security telltale, after approximately 10 minutes the telltale will turn off.
3. Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds.
4. Repeat steps 1-3 two more times for a total of 3 cycles or 30 minutes.
5. With a master passkey III key, start the vehicle. The vehicle has now learned the key transponder information and the PCM has now learned the fuel continue password.

IMPORTANT: The vehicle learns the key transponder information and/or passwords on the ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle.

6. With a scan tool, clear any DTCs.

Thank you Roy. Good information. I followed this mixed with videos of others successes. It started right up and is driving. All good now.

But I'm back on the highway. And the Battery light is still blinking.

So I went to auto parts store and they tried to test the electrical system. The device could not stay connected. It was getting booted off every time.

Is this a sign of a major grounding issue still?

Or a module like the BCM going bad?

From other forums, I will need to find a GM mechanic w appropriate scanner and CPU readers etc, for the more accurate diagnosis I gather?

* History: I just purchased this SUV and the AWD disable light was on. I knew I needed to replace a bearing from the typical whirring noise. I was hoping that the sensitive CPU on this versitrak beast would turn off the AWD light when I install the new hub assembly.

Would a prolonged AWD warning light issue be a cause for the battery light or electric issue?

P.S. Where do I donate etc?

Okay.

Is the ABS light on?

Did the parts store check the voltage at the battery with it running?

The anti lock is on as well. Yes, forgot that part. Connected to bearing issue I thought.

And yes they tested at the battery, but the engine was not running?

Also. More back story. While following your suggestions. I tracked down that the last owner cannibalize the larger rear speakers of this model. I think they are connected to a factory amp power source. No crimping or capping off of the wires. Just snipped all be it they are covered in factory insulation.

I'm going to cap them off now to end and parasitic draw.

The AWD light is on due to the ABS light. When there is an ABS code, the AWD is disabled.

They need to test it running.

And yes. ABS issue. They mentioned that they may have out the wrong brake pads on the car. The front are on the back and the back are on the front. Tehehe.

I'm changing that out on the bearing repair.

No to the brake pads. The ABS is the electronic side of controls not the mechanical side of the system.
