I saw this car and fell in love. I have a 1989 cadillac brougham. Its a little beat up but just needs some t.L.C. I've fixed multiple things on it so far. Now that I'm broke I'm trying to fix cheaper things. When I bought it I noticed the radio and tape player didn't work which I didn't mind. One day while workin on it with the door open the tape player came on. I closed the door and it shit off. I fixed the problem but now just the tape player works there's no radio but I do get static also it doesn't light up. I was wondering how to go about fixing this. Is it the antenna? Any input anyone has would be great. Even if its something else you might know about a 1989 cadillac brougham like suggestions or advice I would greatly appreciate. Sorry about the long wait for me to get to the point I just love this car. I put a couple of photos up of some of the work I've done on it. I could not believe the difference off the roof after fixin it up that pic shows half fixed and half the way it looked when I bought it. I used a tutle wax product.

If there's no display and no audio the 12 volt memory circuit may be dead. It is usually tied in with some other circuit that is always live like the horn or cigarette lighter but most commonly it's the interior lights. If you can't find any blown fuses or other systems that aren't working, remove the radio and measure the voltages. '89 was right in the middle of when they were switching over to the new plug style. If you have three large plugs, a black, blue, and white one, each with four wires, you will have another much smaller plug with two or three wires. One of those wires in the smaller plug is for the memory 12 volts. Check that.

If you have the newer style of smaller plugs you'll have a white and blue one, each with four wires, and a larger black one. One wire in the black plug must have 12 volts all the time and a second one will have 12 volts only with the ignition switch turned on.
