Engine Mechanical problem
2002 Pontiac Grand Am Automatic 110000 miles

Hi, I was driving my car then all of a sudden the everything just locked up. I could not turn the wheel or nothing. So I shut the car off and tried to start it back up but it would not start, it would make the noises of a car tring to start up but it would not start. I took it in to get it checked out and they told me that my timing belt snapped and I need a new engine. They also told me that my car did not have oil in it. I want to know if the timing belt snapping can cause for me to need a new engine? What should I do? Whats my best bet?

No oil can cause a situation where the engine locks up and breaks the belt. If the belt breaks and the valves hit the pistons it will damage the entire engine. In this situation. It is which happened first, did it run out of oil and break the belt or did it break the belt and was just low on oil. Either way, major work will be needed to repair it
