1997 Plymouth Breeze Fuel Tank Problem

1997 Plymouth Breeze Two Wheel Drive Automatic

When you go to fill the gas tank, you can only pump about a dollar into it, and then the gas pump shuts off, and fuel spits out due to the back pressure created. Only way to fill this car up is if you control the pump handle and fill the car, it seems, drop by drop.

Does the fuel tank attach itself to the fill tube with a rubber hose, and could that hose be collapsed inside? Also there are two vent holes above the fill hole, do these vents attach to the fill tube before the rubber hose, that I suspect is collapsed? Or is there somthing else that could cause a blockage?

Removal & Installation
Release fuel pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect fuel pump 4-pin wiring harness located under trunk mat on left side near left rear shock tower.
Locate body grommet near base of rear seat. Push grommet out and feed wiring harness through hole in body. Remove fuel cap. Raise and support vehicle on hoist. Drain fuel from tank through fuel tank drain plug, located on left edge of fuel tank.
Install fuel tank drain plug.

Disconnect fuel filler tube from fuel tank.

Disconnect rollover valve hose. Remove fuel tank mounting straps. Lower fuel tank from vehicle.
