My engine is overheating why?

I have the car listed above SE model. I begin to notice that a smell would come from my car like it was overheating but my temperature gauge is normal as always. My fan still cut on like normal. Then I noticed it had been using water so I filled it up twice the other day. Any advice on what it could be? Like I said the temperature gauge is normal, the fan cuts on I'm lost at this and I do know there is a lot of miles on my car.

If it is losing coolant and you don't see a leak it could be the start of a blown head gasket. To be sure these guides will help us see what's going on to help get us started on fixing the problem:
