Like it says above. I have a 1999 olds alero. It has the 2.4l DOHC engine. Recently I started hearing a knocking/pinging noise from the engine. It gets pretty bad when the RPMs get up to about 2500-3000, that's when it usually shifts. Is there anything cheap I can start off with to try to fix it before I start tearing apart the engine?

Thanks for your time.

Well first, I would be sure the oil is topped off, then add some kind of oil thickener or conditioner, like lucas or cd2 I think it is, see how it goes. There is not much you can do. I'm thinking a push rod or possibly rocker arms. Hopefully its not bearings.
