Hello, I have the vehicle listed above k1500 LT. The other day I replaced the battery, I removed the instrument cluster because it was a bad connection and replaced it. After several times of trying to start the vehicle, I realized I had the wrong key in the ignition. Got the proper key and when I turn the key the vehicle will start for a fraction of a second and then immediately shut off. Vehicle has always started has always been a good runner and no issues does have high miles.

Hi,

Is the security light staying on? If it is, I need you to do something.

First, turn the key from the off position to the run position (engine off) and allow it to stay there for approximately 10 minutes. The security light should turn off. At that point, see if the vehicle starts normally.

If it does, follow the directions below. Basically, they are the same thing but done a total of three times.

Let me know if this helps.

Take care,

Joe

The security light only comes on when the key is turned for a very short time then goes out with all the other lights.
I did try the steps for relearning even though the light was not on, and nothing happened.

Hi,

Okay, it doesn't sound like it is an immobilizer-related issue. I just went through the procedure for replacing the instrument cluster. The last thing it mentions is if the cluster is new, it will need programming. I don't recall having to do this. Just out of curiosity, is that something you have done? Take a look at the directions I reviewed. I attached them below.

Also, does the instrument cluster seem to be operating properly? When you worked on the vehicle, was anything other than what was mentioned done to the vehicle?

Let me know.

Joe

Hi,

If the cluster has been repaired due to a connection, there is a possibility it is a communication issue. If you have a scan tool that can communicate with the system, see if there is a communication signal with the IPC.

Let me know.

A friend of mine suggested I spray gas into the intake after removing duck work.
It started and stayed running the whole time I sprayed gas into it. I had checked and the fuel pump was and is pumping fuel. So, I did not consider.
I guess it is a coincidence that this all happened right after the battery change. Sorry for any headaches. You have been great, and I cannot tell you how much I appreciate you.
So now that I know it is a fuel issue and my pump is pumping what should I look for? Pressure? Is there a way to figure it out without buying a tester I don't have money for?

Hi,

Yes, I would recommend checking the pressure. You will need a fuel pressure gauge. However, most parts stores will lend one to you with hopes of selling you a new pump. LOL

Here is a link that explains how it's done:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-fuel-system-pressure-and-regulator

I attached the manufacturer's pressure specifications below. If the pressure checks out to be good, then we will need to confirm power at the injectors.

Let me know what you find.

So, it calls for 55-62 PSI.
My pump now pumps maximum of 48 PSI, also the second I let off key pump obviously shuts off and the pressure immediately drops to zero. I was told it should hold pressure for a predetermined amount of time?
What do you think?

Hi,

The pressure is low, and it shouldn't drop to 0 psi as soon as the key is turned off. The fuel pump and sender assembly contain a reverse flow check valve. The check valve and the fuel pressure regulator maintain fuel pressure in the fuel feed pipe and the fuel rail in order to prevent long cranking times.

The pressure will drop, but it shouldn't drop more than 5 psi in one minute. If it drops off to 0, chances are we have a leaking fuel injector. I say that because the fuel pressure is low. If there was an issue with the one-way check valve, pressure would likely be higher. If an injector is leaking, then it can't build enough pressure. It's a theory.

Here is a link you may find helpful when testing:

Let me know.
