My SUV has sat nearly 6 months needing a fuse box replacement. Changed that today. It wants to start but won’t. Battery was completely drained so we were boosting it off of a car. It wants to start but won’t. We sprayed starter fluid and it almost fired right up but didn’t. Is this because of a weak battery or not getting enough gas? It’s parked up hill. Relays and fuses are good because before the replacement it wouldn’t even crank. It does crank now? Could it be the fuel pump?

Welcome to 2CarPros.

It could be the pump. The only way to confirm is to check fuel pump pressure. Here is a link that shows how it is done:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-fuel-system-pressure-and-regulator

Here are the manufacturer's specs for fuel pressure:

2004 Ford Truck Expedition 4WD V8-5.4L SOHC VIN L
Fuel Pressure

Key on, engine off .................... 379 kPa (55 psi)

Engine running .................... 379 kPa (55 psi)

I realize most people don't own a fuel pressure gauge, but most parts stores will lend or rent one to you. Check that and let me know what you find.

Reach under the fuel tank and give it a bop with a rubber mallet, 2x4, or a Fonzy bop. Sometimes when a fuel pump sits for extended periods of time, and especially with today's ethanol rich fuels, the pump can rust and stick. Sometimes a good bop will get things going enough to get you to a shop so you can replace it.
