Ok I have some new information to share with you.

I looked at the tail light circuit boards to check if there was any melting or shorting. No evidence. I replaced the drivers side one with a new one (I bought 2 when I replaced the passenger side). I put a new 20amp fuse in. I turned on the lights manually with the **** and BOOM, fuse blows. Any ideas? I'm a novice when it comes to vehicles but I understand most of what I'm told to do. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

Electrical problem
Pontiac Montana 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

We are having a problem with the tail lights of a pontiac montana. When we turn the switch to all lights, the head lights turn on but not the tail lights. When we hit the brake, the top brake light turns on with full power but the bottom brake light (we assume it is a break light two as it is a double filiament light bulb) does not turn on. We also do not have dash lights.

We tested the hook up to the tail light board and we are getting power for
Brake, Turn, and reverse but no power for a tail light. So we assume the circuit boards are good.

When our light switch is in the middle position the front lights don't turn on but the day time running lights turn on though. We also have no fog lights.

Forgot to put, this is a 2002 year model and we have tried a new light switch but no avail.

Did you ever get an answer or figure your light problem out? We are having almost identical problems with our 2000 Montana!
I'd love to know how you fixed it!

What I want you to do is check each light circuit to a ground on the vehicle to see if there is continunity. If there is to ground, that is a problem. However, please keep in mind, there will be a ground wire for the lights too.

It it my belief that either you have a direct short to ground or the circuit board itself has a bad spot that can't be seen. Therefore, check the circuit board for continunity too.

I removed the blown fuse and checked and found 12v with the vehicle on. Does this suggest the problem is in a switch, or module on the circuit and not necessarily a short?

Our tail lights do not come on with the head lights. The brake lights and blinkers work fine. At about the same time, the dash lights quit and a warning bell continues to ring when the door is open even when the lights are turned off and the key is out of the ignition.
We think there are fuse issues but don't know which ones belong to the problems areas (we know where the boxes are)
HELP! This is our last vehicle. The other died a transmission death last week and we are behind the eight ball!
Thanks for any help or direction you can give!

Fuse # 37 blows when the parking lights are turned on or when the daytime running lights try to turn on.
I have unplugged all parking lights front and back and this does not help. Thanks for your time.

Trace all the wiring harness's from lights back and look for a short to ground or a short to power. Check for voltage at the wiring's with key on and lights off and see what happens.

I can get you a wiring diagram if you would like for further testing.

Electrical problem
1999 Pontiac Montana V6 Front Wheel Drive Automatic 147563 miles

When applying left turn signal, the signal may or may not blink. I've replaced the circuit board for the lamps and also the connectors on both sides about 3 weeks ago. It seems the problem has returned. What else can I do?

Did you replace the circuit board with a used one? If so you may have to replace it again. These circuit boards are a problem and are always shorting out. If you do decide to replace it try your local salvage yard and see if they offer them aftermarket. It isn't as cheap as used but it is cheaper than buying it at the dealership.

You have a ground issue and or burnt out bulb. Check all the marker/turn light bulbs. If they are burnt out replace them. While checking them look at the contacts and the sockets they go into and look for deformedor melted sockets. This happens in the rear taillight lenses sometime. You will need a special star patern allen wrench to remove the bolts holding the taillights to the car. The fast blinking is caused by an abnormal amount of amps remaining in the lighting system when a bad bulb is present or one is removed.
