It always blows hot, which was fine during the cold winter weather. But we are starting to get warmer weather and I have to open the windows because it gets too hot in the car's interior. I have the temperature set at the coldest temperature, but I am getting hot air blowing through the vents. I would appreciate any feedback. Is this a complicated fix that should be done by a mechanic or is it something that is somewhat handy could tackle. Thanks for any assistance.

Hi,

You should be able to do this on your own. What I suspect has happened is the air mix damper cable has either come disconnected, damaged, or something it attaches to (controller or damper lever) has broken.

Do me a favor. I attached a pic below. That is the HVAC box/heater control unit. I highlighted the cable and lever related to the air temperature entering the vehicle. Locate this part and adjust the temperature switch from cold to warm a few times to see if that lever is moving.

Let me know what you find.

Note: I am basing this on a Sebring Coup because the sedan didn't show a V6. If I am incorrect, let me know.

Take care,

Joe

Joe, I greatly appreciate your taking the time to answer my question. The car is a sedan.

The first thing I need to do is locate the part. Sorry for sounding stupid, but can you give me an inkling where to look for this part? Is it easily accessible or do I have to remove a lot of parts to get to it? I tried to see if I could find the part, so I watched a YouTube video and unless I missed something, it seems that getting to this part means removing a lot of other parts. Thank you again for responding to my question.

Hi,

No problem. Actually, with a V6, I see it is the LXI model. In a sedan, that changes things. The actuator is electric and not hard to replace.

I attached the directions below for the removal and installation below.

As far as location, the blend door actuator is mounted to the bottom of the HVAC housing in the center. (See pic 6)

Let me know if this helps.

Take care,

Joe
