I have a 96 Nissan sentra GXE with the dashboard lights out and there doesn't seem to be a fuse in the fuse box for it. Where is the fuse for the dash light in a 96 Sentra?

There is a fuse and fusible link there either one could be bad. it's fuse 36 in the underhood fuse panel. Here is a guide to help check it for power and the fuse locations in the diagrams below.

Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what you find. We are interested to see what it is.

Cheers

So if my tail lights and dash lights are both out, that would most likely be the fuse 36 in the underhood panel? Everything else works - brake lights, blinkers, headlights, backup lights.

Scan for codes as it may be a body module going bad or the cluster

Electrical problem
1996 Nissan Sentra 136000 miles

ok so I got in my car this morning and there was no lights on the dash no speedometer reading and the temp meter wouldn't read. On my way to work it started to chatter in random places at various speeds. On my way home from work it still chattered with no dash lights. When it chattered it felt like it would pull back in speed. I shut my car off and played with the fuse because I've had problems with the lighting before. When I went to start my car in made churning noise. It didn't sound like it was turning over but like the battery had died.

Might want to load test the battery and make sure its clean and tight for a start. Also do a battery drain test and check /test the ignition switch then come on back.

Have a pro use his scanner because yours won't pick up those codes anyhow.

The dash lights (speedo and fuel gauge) do not work. I can't find a fuse for it. When I turn the headlights on the clock light dims. The controller for the dash lights does not have any effect. All the warning and indicator lights work.
I don't know if its related but the radio only works on one speaker. I had the harness checked by my local guy and he says the harness and speakers are ok. I have replaced the radio with a factory duplicate and it has the same problem. Currently the radio is not installed.

Thanks

Remove the instrument cluster, there are 4 bulbs with panel that has a tachometer and 3 bulbs on panels without tach. I will email you a diagram of the illumination circuit.

For specific testing I need to know if you have a tachometer or not?

Inspect fuse #4 (10-amp) and fuse # 6 (10-amp). If fuses are OK, suspect faulty dimmer switch.

My dash does not illuminate anymore! Is this a light bulb or fuse? Also my speedometer is starting to freak out. Sometimes works. Sometimes not.
Okay so that is 2 questions, but I basically know where to put gas in and that's about it!

Thanks in advance

Hi kat7761,

If the tailights are working, then it should be the dash bulbs that are faulty, if not, check for a blown fuse.

The speedometer malfunctioning is most probably due to the speed sensor failing.
