My car struggles to start then cuts out

My car struggles to start it takes a few times to get anything out of it. It just keeps trying to turn over. When I finally get the engine going it firstly didn't cut out until I put my foot on the accelerator and as I let it go the revs dropped and the engine cuts out. The second time it started and suddenly cuts out. Then I did not get it to start from there.
