Total loss of power. Fails to start at all

Was driving along and all of a sudden the car chugged, lost power and came to a halt. The car now won't even turn over. It is a vauxhall cavalier, k reg. Can you help! :Oops:

Start with battery power. Check that the battery has a good charge, the cables are clean and tight, and all fuses are intact.
