Recently my car has been having some problems such as shutting off when trying to accelerate from a complete stop or just shutting off while idling. An example of this is when I was driving to school yesterday morning it was driving fine before and after I got gas but then I came up to a stop sign and when I went to accelerate the car shut off and I had to push it off the road. Other times before this I would go to accelerate and it would drop below one thousand RPMs when at a complete stop and shake a whole bunch and then finally go. So far I have replaced both the bank one O2 sensor and the idle air control valve and its still doing the same thing. I am just wondering what else it could be because I don't want to be spending tons of money on a part that is not causing the problem. Thank you for your time and help.

Hi,

Is the check engine light staying on while the engine is running? If it is, scan the computer. Here is a quick video showing how it's done:

If there are codes, they should point us in the right direction.

I realize most people don't own a scanner, but oftentimes a parts store will scan it free of charge.

Next, when it stalls, do you have to wait for it to restart or does it start right away? I ask because a crankshaft position sensor can cause this and not even set a code. Read through this link:

If there is a delay until it restarts, I need you to check for spark and fuel to the engine. Here are two links that explain both:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-fuel-system-pressure-and-regulator

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-test-an-ignition-system

If the crank sensor is failing, you will lose spark to the plugs. Check that and let me know what you find or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe
