My vehicle I just bought from a friend shuts off quite frequently I might say. It is usually when it comes to a complete stop. My friend said that it was the battery. I drove it for awhile before I experienced it myself for the first time, it would not start back up so I did as my friend said and it started back up right away. I had not experienced it dying since, when I got up to go to court this morning I stopped at a stop light and it shut off. I put it in park and tried to restart it, not even the HID lights light up and it does not want crank or make any noise. Help!

First thing is to get the battery tested and clean the battery terminals. GM sidemount battery cables like to rot out from acid getting into the connector and into the cable ends under the insulation. Also check the other ends of the cables as well as any corrosion will drop the voltage. If you mean the headlights don't come on then it's likely to be the battery or cables.

Which engine do you have as there were some issues that depend on which engine you have as well.
