1986 Chevy Celebrity Not starting

1986 Chevy Celebrity 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I replaced the original starter on my 86 celebrity and when I turn the key all the dash lights, guages and dingers work but the starter doesn't crank/start. Is there something else that would cause the car to not start?

Could be the starter motor, transaxle range switch and the ignition switch

I'd have to be sure your battery has a full charge and all battery connections are good on all ends. The purple wire at the starter solenoid, should be hot/good voltage with the key in the crank position. If no voltage, one possibility is the neutral switch. Did you try cranking in neutral?
