Battery needs to be changed

Whats a mod $12 meaning in a obdII scan tool? Was pressing odometer reset to get hidden tests then service light came on so I got scanner out & it said mod $12 and some misfire 300 code and in 1000 something code, I erased codes so I don't know exactly which numbers but mod12 for sure, all because battery needs to be changed.

If the battery voltage is low it will cause all kinds of weird things to happen, I would change the battery and then clear the codes to see what happens.
