Engine Cooling problem
1994 Mercedes Benz C280 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

When the sits and idles for a few minutes. The temperature gauge goes to boarder line red. When in driving the temperature guage goes down but its still warmer than usual. What could this be and how can I fix it.

Sounds like a fan issue. Do you ever hear a fan when the engine gets hot? Usually if they cool off when moving it is due to no low speed air across radiator. If it has a manual fan, which im pretty sure it does, the fan clutch may be bad.

The fan is always running and the temperature gauge still reads hotter than whats normal.I was wondering if it was the thermostat or a sensor of some sort.

Be sure itis full of coolant as well. It may be a partially stuck thermostat. Is the air coming out of the radiator fan hot or cold?
