My car is having trouble accelerating and puts out a lot of exhaust behind. I can floor it and the RPM's will go up, but hardly accelerate. Now it's occasionally making an odd 'whistling' sound when I attempt to accelerate. When I first start it, it will act normal until I get up to about 30 mph. After that it doesn't matter how fast I'm going, its barely going to go faster. I can't even take it on the highway. Any ideas of what it could be and how to fix it yourself?

Good afternoon,

The first thing I always do with low power is filters. I suggest fuel and air filters to be sure the engine has available air and fuel.

Beyond that, I would have the cat converter checked to see if it is clogged. You have all the symptoms of a clogged catalytic converter.

The fuel pressure needs to be checked as well to be sure you have the correct amount of fuel to the injectors.

And finally, the turbo. It needs to be checked as it is responsible for providing a lot of air for more power.

Are there any codes stored in the system?

Hello,

This could be a partially plugged catalytic converter. If your vehicle's catalytic converter gets plugged then the exhaust from your vehicle's engine will not be allowed to go out the exhaust system, creating back pressure and chocking out your vehicle's engine. I have included for you in the diagrams down below for you to go to:

Please go through the guides and get back to us with what you are able to find out.

Thanks,
Alex
