How do I reset the abs system after changing the rear brake pads and rotors. Or what would cause the pads to wear out so fast?

The ABS/Trac light is on because you have a problem with that system probably a front wheel hub gone out which is typical.

Here is a guide to help you see what I am talking about.

To be sure you will need to scan the system here is a video.

and to test the sensors

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/abs-wheel-speed-sensor-test

you can test the sensors and ring gears with a volt/ohm meter, unplug a sensor, measure the resistance across it with the ohm meter, it should read 800-1400 ohms, then switch to volts, spin the wheel and it should produce voltage...the rest of the system requires the scan tool. The system will clear by itself once the problem has been fixed.

Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Cheers
