I recently had the Trac Off, VSC and ABS light start coming on everytime I crank the car. I had it checked out initally and they said everything looked fine. I had it check again last week by a certified lexus technician and he seems to think I need a new sensor. To the tune of $1800. I also recently had my Check Engine light come on. It was an oxygen sensor for which they want to replace again the sensor only for $450. I have seen a few others comment on similar problems with this model but have seen no solutions posted. I can't afford to replace these sensors only for them to turn around and tell me that the car actually does have a problem and it wasn't just the sensor. Is there anyway to really tell? Any suggestions or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

It sounds like you have a wheel speed sensor that is not working but to be sure this video will show you how to get the codes to confirm the issue.

Please run down this guide and report back.

The trac off and VSC lights along with the check engine light will not stay off even after correcting the codes that were diagnosed with the obd scanner. Do you think I need to replace the engine/power-train computer/module?

What was repaired or replaced to deal with the issue? If you just erased the codes they will come back if there is still a fault. With those items it could be many things from a bad wheel sensor, transmission issue or broken wire.

I replaced two oxygen sensors. I did just not erase the codes. I also replaced the gas cap and some other issues. I do not know what else to do.

There is probably a ABS wheel speed sensor that is out. The easiest way to check for which one is to scan the ABS system.

Here is a video to help you get the job done:

If you do not have a scanner you can check the sensors manually by following this guide.

Please let us know what happens.

Cheers, Ken

Trac off/vehicle stability control are not related to O2 sensors. The most likely item is a bad speed sensor on a wheel or bad bearing. Not related to the power train module at all.
You need to have the ABS/traction control system scanned to determine the actual fault codes. Do not bother with the free places as they only scan for engine related codes. Then you can determine what the real problem is.

Thanks Steve for the follow up! I have the car at a very reputable place that is doing a very comprehensive look at the entire vehicle. I will get back in touch when he tells me his diagnosis. Thanks again, Mark

Hi Steve it’s Mark it is Wednesday November 8th The time now is 6:37 AM ! I dropped the car off at a Lexus dealership in Monmouth County New Jersey owned Ray Catena he owns 17 dealerships, The one I brought the car to is in Oakhurst New Jersey my girlfriend had the exact same car and got very good service there but there is an issue I need to go over with you ! The Trac/Off and VSC lights are still on along with the check engine light ! The car has a little exhaust leak it is coming from the flexplate ! I have read extensively and it can trigger the lights to go off they say any exhaust leak as they say the gas cap is an issue with these cars I replaced the gas cap and for some reason I do not think it’s coming from the exhaust ! They want to start by first replacing pipe assembly
Exhaust (1) this is a Lexus OEM part number
1741020461 The cost of the part is close to $1,200.00 with labor the bill is going to cost $1,465.00 ! I could definitely buy this part a lot cheaper it would not be an OEM but the price would be $278.00 for the part from a reputable manufacture ! The car needs some other work it’s the 120,000 thousand mile service that is quite extensive but I don’t need to do all of it because I cannot afford it my main concern is keeping these lights off because the car uses a lot of gas and doesn’t run bad but the transmission shifted smoother you can feel the difference when the codes are clear and I keep the lights off ! After I replaced the oxygen sensors and the gas cap I read where you can disconnect one side of the battery I disconnected the negative and just held it on the positive metal to metal for 30 seconds then I reconnected the negative terminal and all the lights went off completely and they stayed off for approximately 18 miles that was the longest ! But every time I tried doing that it got less and lessand came back on within about 2 miles ! I have to let them no at the dealership what I am going to do about replacing this exhaust system ! I have to let them know between 10 AM and 11 AM ! What do you think I should do I am really confused at this point I know the lights can be cleared I just don’t know what it’s gonna take to get them off and have them stay off ! I am going to let them know what you told me the other day about the ABS scanning ! I am going to forward what you sent me to try and see what they say ! Do you have any other suggestions I’m sorry to bother you I just am more confident with you than I am with anybody else when it comes to making decisions about this car ! Stevie you can call me if you want on my cell phone I think you told me the other day that that was not allowed if you can the number is 201-341-6730 or if you can just reply and let me know your thoughts on this and what do you think I should do I would greatly appreciate it thanks so much Steve hope all is well with you ! Sincerely Mark !

An exhaust leak wouldn't trigger those codes. It may trigger the CEL light for a different code for system lean because the leak let's in air and the computer would try to make the mix richer to compensate for that.

Parts wise, with that mileage I would probably opt for aftermarket parts if possible.
Or more likely I would see where the actual leak is, it could be just the gasket itself, or it could be a hole at a weld seam that could be repaired instead of replaced.

The following lighrs just came on yesterday:

"trac off" - Traction control system off indicator light

"VSC" - Vehicle stability control system/traction control system warning light

Engine Symbol - Malfunction Indicator

Is it anything major? Are all three tied together to one problem?

You will need to scan the computer for codes, both engine and ABS/Traction control. There could be an engine issue causing the traction control light

Read the article below, it will help you figure it out
