1999 Land Rover Discovery 2 Trans fluid.

How dio you check the transmission fluid. I do not see a dipstick. Underneath there is a plug at the trans pan that looks like it could be used to check fluid but I have never seen an automatic transmission without a dipstick.

First, the transmission should be cooled down. Start the engine and move the shifter through the gears, you do not need to drive it, then out it in park. With the engine running remove the fill plug on the front right, left if you are looking at the plug, of the transmission pan. There should be a steady stream of fluid running out, Land Rover recommends a 2mm stream. Do not let too much drain, as this will cause shifting problems.
