My truck showed hot on the gauge but when I pulled over and checked the engine, it was not overheating, but there was a burnt rubber kind of smell coming from the front of the engine and I also noticed a little smoke there, not the radiator but behind the belts. Then it went away, but then it would not start, it just would turn over. There was no looping while it was turning over. It turned over smoothly but would not start. Not gasoline odor like a fuel pump. Could it be the timing belt? The engine would not be gone would it?
