I'll take it to a shop. Auto zone's print out for both codes said poss bad connection or open circuit, I was hoping maybe just a electrical plug had come loose. Why do you think it has been running good for the last few days? Thanks Chris

Internmittent failure, these are the hardest to find. If it isnt acting up, the shop will test and all will be ok. Its actually better if it is acting up to have the shop check it then

I would still work through the diagnosis chart supplied in the first post, I feel that this is the most probable cause.

I go to take off in my jeep and can't even go 20 mph and it acts like it is in neutral and just revs up. If I turn if off and take off the battery terminals it will run fine

This sounds like a computer related issue. Have you scanned the computer to determine if there are any trouble codes related to the transmission? Have any warning lights come on? Is the fluid full and clean?

Transmission fluid is good. I have not hooked it up to a computer. Where would I go to do that?

I would like to say most parts stores will do it for free; however, they usually only have basic scanners that read engine codes only. You will most likely need to see a regular shop. You could call nationally recognized parts stores to see if they can do it. Please keep in mind, this could be other things too. There could be an issue with a shift solenoid, the governor, a clutch pack. The scan should identify if it is related to any of the electrical components that run the transmission. (I miss the old hydraulicly run transmissions. They were much easier to diagnose!)

2002 Cherokee will not shift out of low gear.
Fluid level ok, no smell. Replace TPC. Checked connections on sensors on or near transmission. Proper ohms at output sensor at rear of transmission. A tech furnished ohm value at that time.(3 weeks ago)

That is what I was thinking, something electric. It could be a bad shift solenoid.

Transmission will not go into reverse gear when first started in the morning. Also when shifting into drive, it hangs in current gear until I let off the throttle slightly. After trans temp. Warms up (5 miles or so), the trans begins to work fine with reverse but slightly rough shifts. Shudders if rapidly accelerated from standing stop.

Work performed:
Valve body replaced (improved shifting into reverse but RPMs need to be a little high and it is sluggish) sometimes it will jerk into reverse around 1300 RPM if it was just driven recently
Trans oil: Toyota DII (level is correct)
Solenoids checked (13 ohms)
There is a fault code in the output speed sensor circuit (P0720)
Disconnected TCM and tested: same results

Have you checked the transmission line pressure yet with a pressure gauge?I always do that before replacing anything. Also have tried to diagnose the P0720 yet?

Have not checked line pressure yet. The P0720 code may be coming from the wiring itself. Its been awhile since I checked but I think it was over the 5 ohms for any part of that circuit stated in the powertrain and diagnostics manual from jeep. The sensor, when checked with a multimeter, puts out a beep every time the rotor passes by it (am I correct in thinking its an induction type?). When I get some time, I plan to repair that wiring harness.
