1986 Jeep Cherokee 4 cyl Four Wheel Drive Manual

I have a 1986 Cherokee Pioneer that idles rough for the first 15-20 min after starting and blows black smoke. I have replaced the air cleaner and checked the plugs. Number 2 cylinder plug had oil spatter on it and the rest have carbon deposit. Is there anything I can do myself or do I need to put my Jeep in the shop?

I have a question. Does it have fuel injection or a carb? I can't remember. That was right around the transition period. If fuel injection, have the temp sensor tested. If carb, make sure the choke pull off is working to open it when it starts.
