94 honda civic, 113,000 miles, stick shift,

recently my brakes would start making a screeching noise while I would start pressing the brake. And now everytime I go to brake the car makes a loud noise like if you was rubbing two pieces of metal together. And ever since that new noise came, I can hear the bottom of my car creeking everytime I go over a hole or I go to turn. Please help! Thanks! Could it be that my car needs brake oil and other oils?

P.S. My clutch is in perfect working condition. But ive been told that my car needs a tune up. Could that be it?

Hi there,

It sounds like you have run out of brake pads, Now some pads have a warning device built in that screatches when the pads get low(Small tin clip that rubs on rotor) If this is the noise no damage done just get the pads changed, if you have gone metal to metal, that is all the pad material has gone and the metal backing of the pad is in contact with the rotor, big problems. Apart from having very poor brakes, the rotors are being ground away at an alarming rate and may be to far gone to be re machined again. There is a min thickness for all rotors so you may not have much margine to play with, in short get the brakes checked ASAP before you get into real strife.
