2001 Honda Civic Unable to shift into gear

I just encountered a problem with shifting into gear. The car was running then stopped and restarted. After sitting overnight. The car will start but will not shift into gear. What could this be/

Have the shift interlock system checked out-Don't you have an override-check the owners manual
