My car was running fine on the freeway. Until I felt a jolt. So I exit. When I came to a complete stop my car started putting and stalled. I tried to turn it on but it kept putting. The only thing is if I don't give it gas it shuts off. I changed the main relay but I havent changed the fuel pump. Before I change it, I jus want to know if theres somthing else wrong.

Hi captin12,

Before doing any replacement of parts, you need to verify what is wrong and causing the fault.

1. Are you sure it is fuel related?
2. Did you check the spark plugs?
3. Did the engine overheated when it decided to play up?
4. Did the Check Engine Lamp showed up while driving?

My engine overheated when it started to play up. Then the engine lamp came on. And the spark plugs are brand new. I changed the fuel filter and the fuel pump and the main relay. Just to play it safe. And still the same problem.

Hi,

The engine might have overheated causing a head gasket problem and the sputtering.

I would suggest checking the coolant level in radiator. If it is low, get a pressure test done to check if the head gasket is bad.

Check the spark plug wires, overheating sometimes causes the wire to be damaged.
